We Tried It: Flash Furniture X10 Racing Style Bonded Leather Gaming Chair Review

Priced at slightly over $100, I wasn’t sure what to expect from this chair because the quality of gaming chairs can be hit or miss even if they cost a pretty penny. Considering that it was made by an office furniture company, I had hopes that its features would provide me all the functionality and comfort that I typically look for in a gaming chair.

I put it to the test over several days while gaming, working at the computer, and relaxing. To my delight, I was very pleased with this chair and it exceeded my expectations in almost every way.

Arrival and unpackaging

The Flash Furniture X10 Racing Style Bonded Leather Gaming Chair arrived at my residence a few days after purchase. I was able to track the chair as it went through the shipping process, and it was delivered to me promptly. The chair was dropped off by my front door and I was able to get the box inside without much issue. Usually, the box is quite heavy, but this time it didn’t seem too bad. Overall, the delivery service was great and I was very pleased with it.

Upon opening the box, I noticed that the chair was packaged very professionally, with several layers of cardboard and Styrofoam inside the box to prevent the gaming chair’s bonded leather material from being punctured or ripped. Screws (with extras) and an Allen wrench were included in a plastic package, and an instruction sheet was also included to aid in the assembly of the chair. None of the packaging appeared to be lacking in quality, and I was happy to find that the chair had no damage to it.

The Flash Furniture X10 chair was pretty easy to put together, and assembly only took around 30 to 45 minutes. The process was not difficult thanks to the included assembly instructions, and everything that I needed in order to properly assemble the chair was included in the box. My spouse and I put the chair together to speed the process up, so if I had done it by myself it would’ve probably taken a bit longer to assemble it.

First, we snapped the wheels into the wheel base and also inserted the gas cylinder in the top of it. After that, we attached the tilt mechanism to the wheel base and put the chair’s seat on the wheel base. The instructions said to put the arm rests on after that, so we followed suit. Because the seat was already on the wheel base, it made screwing on the arm rests a tedious process, but it didn’t make the assembly too difficult. Next, we attached the seat back to the seat, and the process was finished.

This chair combines the sleekness of a racing-style seat with the functionality of a rolling office chair. I’ll go over the features and detail what I liked so much about the chair, as well as what could be improved or changed.

The features of the Flash Furniture X10 gaming chair are convenient and make the chair very comfortable. The armrests pivot up out of the way which I especially appreciate because I can get as close to my desk as possible without them getting in the way, and the rocking function is very nice for relaxing after a long day of work. While there aren’t any support pillows included with this chair, the integrated lumbar and neck support contour nicely against the body with the rest of the seat back. The rocking function is a nice addition that is a bit less common for gaming and office-style chairs compared to the reclining seat back function that seems to be more standard.

The only other feature that I would like to see here is a reclining seat back. It would give another element of comfort to the chair in addition to the rocking function. One gripe I do have is that when rocking, the chair sometimes swivels at the same time considering it is a spinning chair on wheels.

Build Quality

This chair’s build quality is very good. The chair is pretty lightweight due to the plastic wheel base but feels very sturdy when I sit down, and the rocking mechanism doesn’t make me feel unstable even when I push the rocker to its limits. Along with this, the height adjustment is smooth and the arm rests stay fixed at whatever angle I push them up to. Overall, the chair is very durable and no parts of it seem to be particularly fragile other than the bonded leather.

The material: The Flash Furniture X10 Racing Style Gaming Chair features bonded SofThread leather, which is a faux leather material that is not as durable as real leather. Unfortunately, there is no zipper on the chair’s material, so it can’t be taken off for cleaning. This specific chair’s color scheme is an eye-catching highlighter green and black, but Flash Furniture X10 offers red, purple, and blue among other colors, so there is a color for almost every gaming setup. I found the stitching on this chair to be a decent quality for the most part, but I did notice a tiny thread that needed snipping. Looking at the stitching on the seat back, near the breathability window, it appears to be stitched crookedly. Luckily the stitching errors have no effect on the chair’s functionality or comfort.

The support mechanisms: The integrated lumbar support and integrated headrest are features that I’ve found to be just as nice as lumbar and headrest pillows. Since they are integrated into the chair’s back, the support mechanisms are simply just extra padding and ergonomically-designed contours in these areas. Because they’re integrated, they’re not adjustable, but for me this wasn’t a problem. Depending on your height, you may feel differently.

The base: The 5-wheel base of the Flash Furniture X10 Racing Style Bonded Leather Gaming Chair is made from heavy plastic, which makes the base sturdy yet lightweight. When rocking back in the chair it can become prone to rolling, especially on hard floors, but if your feet don’t touch the ground when you sit in the chair and rock back, the wheel base does stay in contact with the floor and does not lift up unless you try to rock while the tilt function is locked. The wheels are also made from hard plastic and can get a little loud on hard floors.

The arm rests: the adjustable padded arm rests are one of the best features of this chair. Made from hard plastic, they pivot up from a 45 degree angle to a 90 degree angle. The arm rests are stiff enough that they will rest at any angle up to 90 degrees so you don’t have to worry about them falling back down while gaming or working. While the arm rests aren’t adjustable in height, they sit at a perfect height that isn’t too low or too high.

The Flash Furniture X10 Racing Style Bonded Leather Gaming Chair is very comfortable to sit in. Due to its slightly contoured padding, the chair feels very well-padded without sinking down or feeling uncomfortable after hours-long gaming sessions or working at the computer all day.

While there are no lumbar support or headrest cushions, the chair is quite ergonomic thanks to the integrated support mechanisms which work just as well as the standard support cushions. The chair’s integrated lumbar support padding works very well to relieve pressure and pain from the lower back. Unfortunately because the lumbar support is not adjustable, this makes the chair a bit less customizable, but it doesn’t necessarily take away from the effectiveness of the lumbar support as it also supports the spine.

The integrated headrest isn’t prominently padded, but it does allow for the head to be supported while gaming at the computer or on a console. The very top edge of the chair is where most of the padding is located. If you’re taller, your head may end up sitting higher than the headrest because the chair’s back isn’t as tall as other standard gaming chairs that have the racing style build. Because the top edge of the chair is padded, if your head and neck do come up higher than the chair, it’s very comfortable to rest your neck against the top. I found that when rocking back, it made it even more comfortable to have my neck against the top of the headrest and also aided in making me feel stable while using the rocking feature.

As for the seat, it’s very effective at relieving joint pain and pressure. The large amount of memory foam padding on the seat makes it very comfortable to sit in for hours at a time. It doesn’t sink down too much and the padding restores its flexibility easily once you get out of the chair. The seat’s cushioning is great at relieving pressure in the hips and back, and I’ve noticed that I can game for several hours at a time without my joints getting stiff or painful from sitting in the chair. This chair offers a lot of joint support, and even my legs feel good while sitting in it. My spouse has also noticed a positive change in their body pain when sitting in the chair, specifically in their lower back and hips.

The armrests are also padded, which adds to the gaming chair’s comfort because they are much more comfortable than the typical hard textured plastic armrests that you’d find on other gaming chairs at this price point.

Verdict

After testing this chair, my opinion of the Flash Furniture X10 Racing Style Bonded Leather Gaming Chair is very favorable. The chair’s thick, contoured padding makes it very comfortable to sit in for hours at a time, and the chair stays grounded even when using the rocking feature despite being lightweight. The back is a bit short for taller users, but the cushioning along the top makes it comfortable against the head and neck regardless of this.

There is a large amount of value here due to the chair having convenient features like adjustable arm rests that move out of the way.

The main thing I don’t like about the chair is that the seat back doesn’t recline, but the rocking feature makes up for this. If I could improve something about the chair, I’d want it to be made out of a more durable leather because most gaming chairs are made of synthetic leather that can be damaged without much effort.
