Vertagear PL4500 Hands-On Review

In all honesty, I expected this gaming chair to continue the perfection which Vertagear has been crafting for the past couple of years. However, I must say that it did not fulfill my expectations – instead, it came short for them.

Below, I am explaining and going in detail on all the reasons why the Vertagear PL4500 is not the gaming chair I expected to see.

I am not saying that the PL4500 is a bad gaming chair. It is a solid piece that is better than many models out there – but definitely far from the best Vertagear model. Here is why…

Shipping, Packaging And Assembly: How Easy Is The Vertagear PL4500 For Setting Up?

I ordered the Vertagear PL4500 as soon as it was released – only to create this first-person review. I did that from the official website, and four days later the chair arrived in a big package.

What I noticed at first was a small dent on the box, which I thought won’t create much problems. This turned out to be true – but the package was damaged during the shipping. I know that things like these occur and thankfully, nothing was broken inside.

This maybe proves the point that Vertagear packages its chairs nicely, which is a good advantage. On top of that, the assembly was really straightforward and I can definitely categorize it as one of the easiest assembly processes I have ever done on a gaming chair.

Seamless and quick, the Vertagear PL4500 was up and rolling in as little as 15 minutes. For beginner users, I assume this process will last around 25 minutes.

Vertagear PL4500 Specs And Features: So Far, So Good

This is a list of the features in the Vertagear PL4500 model:

As you can see, something that stands out in the gaming chair is the Coffee Fiber material which is used in the SC pillow. The manufacturer claims that his material is “hygenic” because it infuses the fabric with silver lining and coffee grounds – yes, the same ones we consume when drinking coffee.

While silver is hailed for its antibacterial properties, the SC pillow accessory in the Vertagear PL4500 works in combination with the silver to interrupt bacteria and its ability to form chemical bonds which are critical to the bacteria’s survival.

With subsequent brewing, the coffee fiber is “paired with hot water to remove materials which are clogging the space,” the manufacturer says on its website.

Besides this, the 6’7” height of this chair (200cm) is well considering the features – which means that it can support big gamers. Same goes for the load capacity which is at 180kg and more than optimal for a chair of this caliber.

What amazes many people in the Vertagear PL4500, however, is the possibility to add a RGB kit. In times when RGB lights are making it to gaming desks, they are also a cool feature that is added to gaming chairs – making them perfect for glowing in the dark.

So, the coffee fiber materials, RGB lights and nice capacity are all the good features of the PL4500. However, the general disappointment (in my opinion) is coming in the next section – the build quality.

Build Quality Of Vertagear PL4500: Simply Unworthy

As you already know from my style of reviewing gaming chairs, I am always objective about all of the elements and materials used by different manufacturers.

In this case, I strongly believe that the Vertagear PL4500 gaming chair does not have a solid build quality. In fact, the quality of this model is subpar – something that surprised me from the start.

I immediately saw how the painting in the PU leather is badly done. There are some easily noticeable darker areas (which I thought was dirt when I first saw the chair). However, it is the bad quality which is translated in this chair. Yes – the spraying is faulty here and is not equal on all of the surfaces.

Believe it or not, Vertagear did things wrong here. The stitching and illustrations are subpar when compared to the ones in the other brands.

The coffee fiber is a good upgrade – but it definitely look too stretched in certain parts and is something that you will notice with ease.

On top of this, the wheels also look cheap and are not as sturdy as many would expect. All of this combined gave me a bad impression.

That said, this chair is not horrible – it has nice features after all. However, it is not the best Vertagear gaming chair that I hoped to see.

Note: Maybe in my case, I did not have good luck. This is why I recommend seeing the chair in detail before purchasing it.

Comfort And Ergonomy: Is The Vertagear PL4500 Chair Comfortable?

Well, the true answer is – not really.

The chair is actually far from comfortable. Even though it is supposed to handle the big build easily, the PL4500 gaming chair is actually too small for me (I am 6”2’ and 300lbs). As much as I wanted to say that it’s good with the nice load capacity and bulkiness of the model – that was not the case.

I found that the main culprit because of this is the seat, which is not deep enough. The backrest area is fine, though.

What’s smooth in this manner is the handle which lets you adjust the back angle and is quite precise. Still, the armrests don’t have this function and only limit you to one button to adjust their height.

For a model like the Vertagear PL4500, I expect a nice seating base and armrests which go into every direction. In contrast, the armrests do not go in every direction. You actually need to push very hard in on direction to make them move, which is why I found them to be “lazy” and stiff.

As I could see, this is mostly because of the too much friction added in the mechanism, resulting in the difficulty of moving the armrests around.

And if you are waiting for my review on the RGB lights, you will be disappointed once again… I could not try the kit.

The RGB Kit In PL4500 (And My Problem With It)

The RGB lights kit in the Vertagear PL4500 comes at an additional price. In order for you to have this cool lighting features, you need to pay extra for a part which is sold separately.

The RGB lights come in two different kits: the top and bottom ones. They cost $299 each, which makes it an extra cost which is nearly as much as the chair itself.

In order to have a full RGB Vertagear PL4500 gaming chair, you need to pay $399 for the chair + $299 (two times) for each kit. The total amount for a full RGB PL4500 model is therefore around $1,000.

Too much for a gaming chair?

Yes, you are right. In my opinion, this is too expensive and the price makes up for around 60% of the total price of the gaming chair.

Which brings us to the final part and my honest verdict.

Final Verdict: Should You Buy The Vertagear PL4500 Gaming Chair?

Now that you know all the specs, features, comfort and sturdiness of the PL4500 model, you probably know that it is not an awful product.

What it is, actually, is an overpriced gaming chair.
