Best Ergonomic Chairs under $500: The Top 10

If you’re looking for a great ergonomic chair, but you only have $500 or less to spend, then look no further. I’ve done the hard work for you and compiled a list of the 10 best ergonomic chairs under $500.

So, here are the 10 best ergonomic chairs under $500:

  1. Sayl Chair by Herman Miller
  2. TITAN Series by Secretlab
  3. DXRacer Racing Series
  4. Alera® Elusion Series Mesh Mid-Back Swivel/Tilt Chair
  5. Autonomous Ergochair 2
  6. Autonomous OsmoChair
  7. Serta Wellness by Design AIR
  8. Cedric Ergonomic Mesh Office Chair
  9. TOPSKY High Back Racing-Style Gaming Chair
  10. Office Factor Executive Ergonomic Office Chair

However, Herman Miller chairs may not suit everyone’s needs and budget, which is why I’ve compiled this list of the best ergonomic options from a variety of different brands. I’ve even found some great ergonomic chairs that are less than $100 for those of you on a very tight budget.

What to Look for in an Ergonomic Chair

Before we delve into the list, let’s first have a look at what factors I took into account when choosing the best ergonomic chairs under $500. Here’s what I looked for:

Ergonomic Support

Ergonomic chairs are all about the support that they offer to your neck, shoulders, and spine while you’re using them. Good ergonomic chairs will offer lumbar support and a high backrest for adequate neck support at a minimum but will also usually often equipped with more advanced ergonomic features.

Comfort and Breathability

A good ergonomic chair will be able to keep you cool and comfortable throughout the day. Chairs with mesh backs are great for keeping cool, while foam cushioning and strong frames can help to keep you supported and comfortable.

Adjustability

Ergonomic chairs should allow you to experience comfort in a way which suits your body. This means you should at least be able to adjust the height of your chair so that you can sit with proper posture. Other adjustability features such as tilt functions and adjustable armrests can allow you to customize your chair more specifically to your needs.

1. Sayl Chair by Herman Miller

Herman Miller Sayl Task Chair: Tilt Limiter - Stationary Seat Depth - Stationary Arms - Standard Carpet Casters - Fog Base/Studio White FrameCheck Price On Amazon

Sayl is the budget option available from Herman Miller, my personal favorite ergonomic chair brand.

Although there are much more expensive and intricate designs available from Herman Miller, Sayl is still a really great option and costs less the $500.

What I love most about this chair is the breathable mesh back panel. It ensures that you’ll stay cool and comfortable whatever the weather.

The chair has a simple yet striking design that wouldn’t look out of place in an office or gaming setting.

It’s also available in a range of different colors, meaning you could match it to almost any color scheme

The chair also features some great, innovative ergonomic technology, such as PostureFit back technology and 3D intelligence.

The chair is also highly adjustable, with functions allowing you to adjust the height, seat position, armrests and recline angle.

If you’re looking for a chair that mimics the design of high-end ergonomic chairs for a fraction of the cost, then Sayl is a really great option.

2. TITAN Series by Secretlab

I’ve already talked about this chair a lot already elsewhere on this site as it’s my overall favorite gaming chair in 2019.

After reviewing this chair earlier this year, I found that the build quality of the chair was superior to many that I had tried.

It was sturdy, had a lot of room on the seat, and most importantly it was highly supportive of the back and neck area. This chair is perfect for gamers who need a solid and comfortable option for long periods of gaming.

The TITAN Series by Secretlab is also a solid option for an ergonomic chair that is under $500 dollars.

Although this product is marketed as a gaming chair, it has some fantastic ergonomic features and is one of the best ergonomic chairs on the market.

The Titan is available for less than $500 in PU leather or Softweave Fabric, which are both highly comfortable options, but you’ll pay significantly more if you want Napa leather upholstery.

3. DXRacer Racing Series DOH/RE0/NO Newedge Edition Gaming Chair

You can’t really go wrong with DXRacer chairs. Most of the chairs they produce are available for around and under $500, so any of their Series could potentially have made this list.

However, the reason I chose this Racing Series chair is that it’s one of their most inexpensive options and comes in significantly under our $500 limit.

Despite the relatively low price tag, it doesn’t skimp out on ergonomic features. It has an extra-high backrest that represents a significant improvement on previous models.

It’s both taller and wider than the previous Formula Series. This means your shoulders and neck will be properly supported and makes it more suitable for taller gamers.

The seat itself is comfortable, height-adjustable, and has a decent tilt mechanism. It can recline up to 135 degrees.

The armrests are also 3D adjustable, which is more adjustment that you’re likely to need, but not quite as good as the 4D armrests on more expensive DXRacer models.

It also has an ergonomic design and comes with a headrest and lumbar cushion that you can place behind your back to help you maintain better posture. The build quality is excellent, as is always the case with DXRacer.

The only real downsides are that the lumbar support isn’t built-in or adjustable and the weight limit is on the lower side (up to 200lbs).

If you want something with a higher weight capacity and adjustable lumbar support, you’re probably better off with the Tank Series, but it does cost slightly more than $500.

4. Alera® Elusion Series Mesh Mid-Back Swivel/Tilt Chair

Alera Elusion Series Mesh Mid-Back Swivel/Tilt Chair, BlackCheck Price On Amazon

The Alera® Elusion Series Mesh Mid-Back Chair is a great budget office chair that comes in at under $500.

It’s got a great ergonomic design that focuses on your entire body, not just your back. For example, the waterfall edge and contoured seat help to relieve your legs of pressure. It’s also not just adjustable for height, but for depth too.

It’s a highly adjustable chair. You can modify the depth of the seat using the screws to make it deeper or shallower, depending on the length of your legs.

In doing so, you can make sure your legs have enough room between the edge of your seat to aid in blood flow and to feel more comfortable. You can also adjust the armrests in 2 dimensions: width and height.

My favorite thing about this chair is the breathable mesh upholstery.

It allows air to circulate across your back and keeps you cool, which is especially great if you work in a warm office.

5. Autonomous Ergochair 2

This well-designed chair by Autonomous definitely lives up to its name. The aptly-named ‘Ergochair 2’ includes some real cutting-edge ergonomic technology and an innovative design that you don’t often see in chairs that cost under $500.

This chair is all about simplicity. The designers aimed to take the hassle out of manually adjusting your chair by making a chair that kind of ‘moves with you’.

All you have to do is lean back, and the tilt tension mechanism will adjust the recline angle, headrest, and seat position to help you maintain good posture.

It gives you 360 degrees of flexibility and allows you to position yourself in literally any seating position you can think of while still being properly supported so that you maintain good posture.

It evenly distributes your weight as you move and is designed to promote good circulation, so you won’t get stiff and achy during long periods of sitting.

The lumbar support is also fully adjustable, you just need to pull down the lever on the back and the chair will do the rest.

Many users of this chair that suffer chronic back pain while sitting believe that this chair literally solved all their problems and made sitting down completely pain-free, or at least that’s what the reviews say.

Personally, my favorite thing about this chair is the headrest. It sits on top of the backrest and kind of juts out at just the right angle to support your neck and keep it really comfortable.

It also looks cool and is upholstered in a breathable Korean mesh to keep you cool.

6. Autonomous OsmoChair

Following up on the Ergochair, and proving that Autonomous really is the king of great value ergonomic chairs, is another of Autonomous’ fantastic creations – the OsmoChair.

A lot of research went into this chair to make sure the ergonomics really were on point, and you can tell. Like the ErgoChair, this chair literally moves with you.

The auto-balance mechanism means you can move around at will and pause in any position, the chair will adapt.

The backrest goes reclined backward up to 128-degrees and even accommodates forward leans up to 16 inches past upright.

The armrests are 4D adjustable, meaning you can move them in literally any direction. The 3D headrest is also highly adjustable and feels great, as is the lumbar support.

The breathable ‘miracle mesh’ circulates air around your body and the whole chair is designed to make sure there is no pressure on your knees.

Unlike many other ergonomic chairs on this list, the Ergochair even includes an extendable footrest, which comes with a whole set of ergonomic benefits on its own.

The footrest is also removable so, if you’re concerned about space or weight, you can take it off and hide it away. You can also remove the headrest.

7. Serta Wellness by Design AIR

If you’re the kind of person that values comfort over breathability in your office chairs, the Wellness by Design AIR chair by Serta might be the perfect choice for you.

Instead of the breathable mesh upholstery that a lot of other chairs on this list use, the Wellness by Design AIR  boasts ‘Puresoft’ leather upholstery that feels super comfortable.

That upholstery is draped over deep-layered body pillows and a seat filled with plush, soft, molded foam for the ultimate comfort.

This chair definitely lives up to its name, too, as it really is designed for wellness. It comes with an in-built, flexible air lumbar that pivots with your movement in order to correct your posture.

As you lean, the lumbar support pushes outward to prevent you from slouching.

Serta calls this ‘posture correcting technology’, and it will ultimately help to keep your back healthy by making sure you always maintain proper posture.

The chair also features height, tilt, and lift adjustments so that you can adjust it to suit your body type.

8. Cedric Ergonomic Mesh Office Chair

Cedric Ergonomic Mesh Office Chair, High Back Desk Chair with Adjustable Lumbar Support, PU Armrests and Mesh Headrest and seat(CD-874MH)Check Price On Amazon

This ergonomic office chair by Cedric is one of the most affordable chairs on this list and comes in significantly under the $500 budget.

Despite that, it has some ergonomic features to be reckoned with.

For starters, it’s super adjustable. In addition to a fully-adjustable chair (height, depth, and tilt), it also boasts adjustable lumbar support, adjustable armrests, and even an adjustable headrest.

Literally, every element of this chair can be adjusted, which allows you to be super-specific about tailoring it to your exact requirements.

It also has a mesh seat to aid circulation, a waterfall seat edge that reduces leg pressure, tilt lock, and a solid construction that can support up to 350 lbs of weight.

That’s actually a really high weight capacity considering how small and dainty this chair looks, so it’s suitable for big and tall users too!

9. TOPSKY High Back Racing-Style Gaming Chair

TOPSKY High Back Racing Style PU Leather Executive Computer Gaming Office Chair Ergonomic Reclining Design with Lumbar Cushion Footrest and Headrest (New Black&Blue)Check Price On Amazon

This ergonomic gaming chair from Topsky is another fantastic budget ergonomic option, that costs way, way less than $500.

It boasts ergonomic features like a lumbar cushion, adjustable armrests, and a headrest pillow.

It also has really plush padding and soft-pad armrests that make it super comfortable, and a ‘flat design’ that minimizes pressure on your legs.

The backrest reclines up to 175 degrees and features tilt lock. It even has a pull-out footrest so you can fully recline and relax almost completely horizontally.

My favorite thing about this chair is how big it is. The back is extremely high – 31.5” high.

The seat base is also very wide so you have plenty of room on either side of your legs for extra comfort.

10. Office Factor Executive Ergonomic Office Chair

OFFICE FACTOR Executive Ergonomic Office Chair Back Mesh Bonded Leather Seat Flip up Armrest Molded Seat with a 55kg Foam Density Double Handle Mechanism You Can Lock The Back in Any Position (Black)Check Price On Amazon

The final ergonomic chair I wanted to mention is the Office Factor executive ergonomic office chair.

This is another budget option that costs a lot less than $500.

The mash back on this thing looks kind of like a spine, which is appropriate considering how ergonomic it is.

The seat features thick padding to keep you comfortable while the mesh back will keep your back cool.

The armrests flip up, which makes it easy to get in and out, and the curved shape of the backrest conforms well to your spine for more comfort and ergonomic support.
