Knowing that PewDiePie is non-stop on his desk creating content, what tickled my brains was what kind of chair he uses. With a little research online, you can see that PewDiePie uses the ClutchChairz Throttle Series (in his own edition) which has a relatively higher price tag but is also known as one of the best gaming chairs on the market. The fact that PewDiePie uses it makes the chair even more popular – and a model that can easily cater to your needs and keep you comfortable. Today, we are reviewing the chair in detail.

PewDiePie And The ClutchChairz Gaming Chair

As the biggest name in the YouTube world, PewDiePie is a proponent of many brands. It was only a matter of time before he started promoting his own gaming chair, too. In this regard, he partnered with ClutchChairz and the Throttle Series model which now carries his name in what is known as the ClutchChairz Throttle PewDiePie Edition gaming chair.

However, what I must point from the start is that despite all of this good press and popularity surrounding PewDiePie as a YouTuber and despite the popularity of the gaming chair – it does not have to mean that this is a good chair.

This is why I decided to order the chair, create this review and show you the true ins and outs, pros and cons and overall details about this chair. So, what does this chair have to offer?

Is The ClutchChairz Throttle Series PewDiePie Edition Well Packaged?

The packaging for this chair is good.

I felt like I was getting a good quality chair right when I saw the box. Everything is tight, the materials are smooth. The main elements are wrapped in plastic and the tiny screws are packaged in foam.

All of the parts fit in the box very well and it seems that ClutchChairz knows how to package everything well so that it fits the box without any issues. There are also small boxes for all the smaller parts – helping you avoid losing any of them (they are taped shut to ensure nothing gets lost).

I did not see any damage or missing parts in the box.

Assembling The ClutchChairs Throttle Series PewDiePie Edition

When assembling this model, I found that the process is fairly straightforward and easy. ClutchChairz did not disappoint me.

The small packages with bolts and the allen tool are inside the box, and there are also a couple of extra bolts just in case something happened during assembly which is again a nice touch.

The bolts for the tilting mechanism were pre-installed in the bottom of the chair. I really don’t know why they decided to package some bolts and not the others but overall, the entire assembly process is easy and beginners won’t have many problems figuring things out.

What I first noticed when installing the tilting mechanism was one issue with the armrests. I was unable to get them bolted up because of their closeness to each other (they were pre-assembled very close together in the factory).

So, I had to loosen up the armrests a little and move them further apart before assembling the tilting mechanism and attaching them onto the chair.

This is again not a big deal. However, considering the hefty price tag of this chair, there should really be better quality control. The screenshots below can show you what I mean with this.

All in all, the instruction manual is printed very nicely and feels solid. You should not have many questions from the moment you start assembling the ClutchChairz Throttle Series.

The entire booklet is well written, descriptive and comes with a lot of details on the assembly process. Unlike many manufacturers which deliver one sheet of paper with instructions, ClutchChairs goes the extra mile and shows you every step in detail.

It took me around half an hour to assemble the chair myself, even with the small issues I had.

Main Features Of The ClutchChairz Throttle Series (PewDiePie Edition)

There are many features that I like about this gaming chair. The best way to review them is listing them one by one:

Armrests

The 4D armrests on the Throttle Series can be adjusted and moved in all directions. Their surface is filled with ¼ inches of padding, which prevents any pain and gives you a smooth and comfy experience. Your elbows will like this padding. 

Also, there is a side-to-side adjustment feature on the right armrest which glides smoothly and feels nice. However, the left armrest does not have it – it is a bit chunky and more difficult to adjust. Overall, the armrests are solid even without a button for adjusting their back-and-forth movement. That said, you should not have any problems with accidentally bumping and/or switching them to different positions.

Backrest

The back of the chair fits my back almost perfectly. As a bigger guy, I can see that it reclines pretty much flat and supports me well. Using the recline is a smooth process without any grinding or popping when switching positions. Despite the fact that I don’t see the flat reclining feature for gamers handy (I have my bed when I want to lay down), this is a good feature to have.

Seat

The ClutchChairz Throttle Series has a relatively wide seat which goes higher and lower than most of the other chairs. This is good for people with different heights. Everything is controlled from the bottom, where you will find a knob that adjusts the rocking tension (it is large and easy to use). The padding on the seat is very large and gets thinner as you get closer to the backrest of the chair. When sitting in the chair, I did notice that there is a bar right at the back of the seat which sticks out and I can feel it while sitting. This is one thing that completely disappoints me and something I did not expect to see on a $470 chair.

Rocking mechanism

As I hinted before, there is a rocking mechanism with tension adjustment and a solid rocking lock. You can stop if from rocking or lock it in multiple titled positions. All of this helps your spine get comfortable and gives you pain relief while sitting.

Lumbar support

There is a very large lumbar pillow. In fact, this is probably one of the largest of all the chairs I have ever had. The pillow uses elastic straps that wrap around the back of the chair as most gaming chairs do.

Headrest

Finally, the headrest size is standard (as in other chairs) – it clips through holes in the back of the chair with elastic straps. Both of the pillows are of great use. They are manufactured with memory foam which is good but not that much supportive. I guess I liked having my neck “hugged” by this foam in the headrest area. Still, things can be improved.

The lumbar pillow goes flat as soon as you scoot back to try and get support and this defeats the entire purpose of support in the first place. Knowing that support is a big feature in every gaming chair, this is another thing I don’t like about this model. After all, the lower back area is the most important and should not have any tension while you are sitting.

So, while the armrests, rocking mechanism and lumbar support (with big pillow) are all great, the bar which is visible (and you can feel it too) on the seat along with the lumbar pillow that goes flat when you try to scoot back to get support are the features I don’t like in the ClutchChairz PewDiePie Throttle Series gaming chair.

Build Quality And Comfort

Next up is the part where I discuss the overall quality of the main elements, their fragility and the comfort that they deliver.

To begin with, the overall build quality of the Throttle Series is both good and sturdy. I could not find any bad welds on the chair (like I did on the DXRacer Formula that I reviewed) and there are no noises when sitting or moving around in it. The only thing I do not like are the plastic covers used to hide the backrest bolts. It seems like ClutchChairz used the cheapest plastic they could to hide the bolts – I have seen many better plastic materials on cheaper chairs.

Next up is the stitching which is done very nicely, even in the curved parts and around the logo in the middle of the backrest area. The lines are clean and tight and there are no missing stitches that I could easily find. Made of metal, the base shows no signs of defects, too. It looks like it was powder-coated in a flat black color and is sturdy and solid.

With the side covers being cheap and flimsy, I also noticed that the red pointed plastic inserts share these features. Still, what I think is that ClutchChairz should work on their plastic materials and protection pieces. This is not an issue which can be seen on the wheels and padding, both of which are made of good materials. 

Speaking of, the wheels are easily installed (you just press them into the base) and are a lot larger than the DXRacer wheels. The only thing they can’t do as smoothly as in other chairs is moving on carpet surfaces – I used a bit of force to get them started. So, make sure to have that in mind.

As I already said about the armrests, they are functional and satisfactory. To some, they may look like they would be hard plastic but these armrests actually have a thin layer of padding which you can dig your elbows into and feel no discomfort at all. The top of the armrests is a wide area with a flat profile – you can easily place a bottle or a cup on it and it will not fall unless it is bumped.

To finish things off, the upholstery is ClutchChairz “Dura-soft” which feels like real leather but also wears well and cleans easily. I think that this upholstery feels pretty thick and seems to me that it will last.

Same goes for the cold-cured foam padding (which is used in some automotive seats). Even though there are some reviews where the print of the sides had rubbed off in a month, this was not the case with my chair and there are no signs of wear at all.

Final Verdict: Good but …

All in all, I would give the ClutchChairz Throttle Series gaming chair an 8 out of 10 only because of the two to three things that I did not like. 

I honestly like how there is no button to move the armrests back and forward, like the foam quality, the build of the chair, and the nice above-standard features.

What I don’t like and want to point out again are the cheap plastic bolt covers and their red accents – I think they are really unnecessary. But then again, I see how ClutchChairz wanted to make a premium gaming chair and why they considered them in the first place. 

And the second thing is the bar that you can feel on the seat. This is maybe a bigger issue to address as it may pose a real problem to some gamers. I hope that they resolve the issue soon and add a touch more foam only to cover this bar which is visible from the photos.

Besides this, the ClutchChairz Throttle Series PewDiePie Edition is a gaming chair I would likely recommend to a friend, especially if they are a fan of the YouTuber and want to sit on the same chair that the Swedish guy sits on.

I would just have to make them aware of my findings and this detailed review so that they can make their own educated decision if it’s a good chair to buy or not.
